COLLEGE FOR A DAY/PRE-COLLEGE PROGRAMS

Did you know that engineers are those who solved social problems? Engineers apply the principles of science and mathematics to develop economical solutions to technical problems. Their work is the link between scientific discoveries and the commercial applications that meet societal and consumer needs. Many engineers develop new products. During the process, they consider several factors. For example, in developing an industrial robot, engineers specify the functional requirements precisely; design and test the robot's components; integrate the components to produce the final design; and evaluate the design's overall effectiveness, cost, reliability, and safety. This process applies to the development of many different products, such as chemicals, computers, power plants, helicopters, and toys.

You can be one of them! College for a Day and Pre-College Program is a college immersion program that uses interactive methodologies to engage Margibi County Schools (elementary, junior and high schools) by providing a “glimpse” of engineering. The prime objective of the College for a Day and Pre-College Program is to change attitudes about post-secondary education and in particular the STEM disciplines by providing venues for the students to experience them first hand. One of our core beliefs is that it is extremely difficult to imagine yourself accomplishing a goal if you have no idea of the expectations or of what success in achieving the goal looks like. College for a Day and Pre-College Program is designed to help students envision themselves pursuing post- secondary education by providing exposure to higher education experiences. ENGINEERS ON FOOT

Engineers on Foot feature grade-appropriate, interactive lessons and presentations, as well as hand-on activities and experiments for elementary and junior students. The day-long conference aims to inspire them to realize their potential and to pursue opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. HARCO students and overseen by HARCO faculty. Subjects will include mechanical/ renewable engineering, civil, engineering, safety engineering, and information technology.

ENGINEERING EXPO

HARCO Engineering Expo is the college’s premier community outreach event organized annually and welcoming Margibi County Schools (elementary, junior and high schools) to HARCO Engineering Center to engage HARCO students, researchers and staff, and to discover the endless possibilities of STEM.

DUAL ENROLLMENT

The college offers several dual enrollment courses to high school students. These courses are free to students and provide an opportunity for students to earn high school and college credit simultaneously (grades will become part of permanent high school AND college transcripts).
